ya know, recently I was thinking about the fun I did have with this club when it had quite the fan base.
The car shows, the meetings at freedom(now countryside ford), the times we all went out to eat...it was a blast. Like my title says, im still lurking around, and almost everytime i come here, nothing has changed, not even posts on the front page! But im wondering...
What happened to everyone? how is everyone doing??
Mike? Brad? Rob? George & George(sparge)? Jon? Gene? I could go on...
I think we need to get one Big get together to happen at say... Fred Howard Park in tarpon springs???
is this possible?

Were still around - Just lacks - I have been super busy so that perhaps is the reason for the less activity. We are more than happy if to have someone organize a gathering.

Still here just busy with life. Was at the Chin event on 4/12. That is a great organization. We had fun and broke in the new car. Can't wait for the May SVTOA event.

I think the activities should be emailed to the whole membership - that solves the lack of particpation on the website. I have noit logged on in 2 years due to the club going down hill but if I got email announcemets I would go....

Thanks for the input. We have sent a few but now response. I think way you say is a very good point as more emails would be good. The other big factor is member participation in general. most seem very content with the current position with the club. We get allot hit to the site but no one posts.
The best thing that could happen is to get a core group help get folks active locally.
we have over 400 people show up to sebring but nor many from Tampa bay.

Why do you think there was so low turnout at Sebring for the local chapter? Have people moved away, no longer interested or is overall membership down due to the demise of SVT and the confuson with who's running SVTOA over the last 2 years? I'm interested to see how many people would get together for a monthly/quarterly meeting. What kind of feedback have you gotten? I enjoyed getting together on a semi-regular basis.

Personally, I think that if there was a low turnout from this area at the Sebring event it's simply because people didn't care to go. Whether it be the money or time or whatever, the commitment was not made.
Everyone has their thing and those things change. A few of us who went committed a lot of time and we always do because that's our thing. You won't see me at a drag meet or a social because that's not my thing. But you will see me commit to SVT road course and autocross events because it is.
A club is what members make it. There were plenty of people who put a lot more effort into Sebring than I did. If members want social activities then create them. If people come then you know that's what's wanted. Same thing with drag meets or car shows. It's all good.
Stuff doesn't just happen in any club. It's planned and executed. Some clubs just have a few guys who go and have a few beers at a members house or a wing place. That's OK but that doesn't seem like it's been this club's thing. Sebring was huge. There were over 100 cars there for three days. Going around a world famous track. Fast. With instruction. That takes a lot of commitment by a lot of people. Not a car show where arrangements are made and people show up and trophys go out and people eat. How many other clubs do something of that magnitude with volunteers?
This club's a great focal point and feeder group. Lots of guys from here have gone off and started their own clubs because that's their thing. I've seen a lot of posts on here with a lot of new people that try to get something started and they fizzle. Follow through is an issue. Or I see people wishing for something to happen. You got to start it - push for interest - set it up and follow through to the finish. Always talk to new people - recruit new members.
If someone plans a driving event I'll be there and work my ass off. As most of us, in many situations I'm more of a follower. I've tried to garner interest in a few idea's that have fizzled. It takes a few leaders who want to push an agenda and a lot of worker bees. Thanks to Gene and the few others who have been and still work towards that, but the club needs more drivers and bees.

[QUOTE=sparge;15642]Why do you think there was so low turnout at Sebring ?
Dave did a good job of spelling out some of the issues. SVTOA and TBSVTOA is hear to stay. Were just missing a few pieces(members)who want to see the local chapter be more active. (nationally it very active)
It is not abnormal for a clubs and its members who have been for a long time (if you call 10 plus years a long time) to find complacently, other interest of priority in life that can direct people away from a club. TBSVTOA and SVTOA is still hear to support Ford, SVT with a gathering place for enthusiasts. The well is not dry.
Were do I stand:
At this time I'm the only one who is being leaned one with Terry being an exception with his efforts. We have had a few get together and the core groups show. I would like to see someone take the lead because if you wait for me we will stay were we are as life in general has consumed more of my time.
This is not my club. It is all of ours. Like Dave said "the member take it were it want to go". So if the SVT and performance Ford owners want more local we will need more members stop talking a good game and just play it. With that said I do appreciate all those who are still believe in SVT and SVTOA.
Sebring:
Yes..Sebring turnout was huge. Largest ever in fact. I love to see so many people enjoy there time if they wee on the track or not. It was a huge community of people who just love cars and expect there Ford.

well guys if all possible i think if there is anyway we can contact the members for a g2g(gene if you have a master list), and then say at that g2g we can figure out a time/location for monthly meetings i think that would be awesome! i think another reason why this might have gone down a bit is also, owning a performance v8 is not exactly wallet friendly at the gas pump too, hell for people like phil(bobbin2ska18) and I, its getting expensive too, im droppin 50.00 a tank at 87 oct... i can only imaging what it would be at 93oct.
but if we have enough people who know about this and want in, ill be happy to try to get a g2g going.

money is ok with me i rather perfer my svtf through twisties, i have drivin supra's and a few cobra's, but some other car places i belong to ie: focus fanatics everyone is committed to haveing a g2g or just hang out as friends im all for meets and greets but if there was like one day a week where we could all meet for a lil or something of the sort that would be better even if was at sonic or something i kno the sonic on hillsborough doesnt care if people hang out but i dont kno if anyone wants to try, a few months ago i invited some people out to a fred howard meet and no1 responded just cause its svtoa doenst mean we need to keep all of our "meet" svt specific

I'm going to try to get out to see some of you when I can get myself and my car into good running condition.
I had a quad-bypass operation on May 15th. When I came out of that, I had two strokes and woke up as a paraplegic. I fought through that and have almost been able to ditch the walker entirely. Looks like I'll get most everything back (crossing my fingers).
Car's in the shop for a rear main seal and better crankcase ventilation, and I'm hoping to reach the 600rwhp mark this year. My immediate goal is to drive it again. Hey, I learned to walk again; driving can't be all that tough.
pssst... Brad, you still owe me a race. ;)

I think a good place for a g2g is:
Fred Howard Park
1700 Sunset Dr.,
Tarpon Springs, FL 34689
absolutely beautiful park with a causeway to a beach, awesome loca for photo's!
how about Saturday August 30th?
I figure plenty of time so everyone knows about it and can make plans to show up say 11am-park close?

Bill and I are still here, too. We don't get to the website very often, but we always pay attention to the emails that Gene sends out. We would love to see more emails go out...life just gets so busy...
There are 2 Saturday events going right now...Ruby Tuesday this Saturday and Country Pizza Inn the next...Bill and I will be at both...will you be there?
