Location:
Fort DeSoto County Park
The park is located near St. Petersburg, Florida and is the first landfall of migratory birds returning from South and Central America in the spring as they cross the Gulf of Mexico. From early March through mid May the park offers the best times for viewing large numbers of Warblers passing through the area. Year round viewing offers great viewing of wading birds such as the White, Little Blue, Green and Great Blue Herons. Shore birds such as Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Black-bellied Plovers are almost always visible.
For the best chance of seeing the Warblers and other songbirds during annual migrations is to look in the woody area east of the fishing pier, around the parking lots and Arrowhead Picnic area.
Directions
From St. Petersburg, from US Highway 19 or Interstate 275 to Pinellas Bayway
Go west on Pinellas Bayway (54th Avenue south or State Road 682)
Turn south on State Road 679 and follow the Park signs.
We will also maintain a list on this thread.
